Over the past weeks I’ve held numerous conference calls, webinars, and hands-on workshops to help everyone understand the proposed changes to the FLSA and to learn what they need to do to get prepared. Each time I spoken to a group I’ve learned what type of information you want now and what steps you need help with as this change moves forward – Thank You!
The question that has been repeatedly asked is “what action steps can companies take now to ensure their voices are heard by the Dept. of Labor and by Congress?” In response to that question, I am sending you a couple of documents that The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) has provided its membership. These documents contain important information they believe should be addressed when you’re making comments to the DOL. SHRM has also shared a sample letter that could be modified and sent to our Congressmen and Senators.
For your convenience, I am sending you their Comment Period Action steps (PDF), and the Comment Period – Sample Letter. I’ve re-created the Sample Letter in a modifiable MSWord format so you can easily modify it, copy, and paste it onto your own letterhead. In addition I’ve included the Instructions for Comment Webpage Instructions for those who wish to submit their comments through the DOL’s Online comment portal.
I encourage you to take whatever actions (legal ones of course) you believe are appropriate for your organization. Please be aware that the comment period is currently scheduled to end at midnight on Sept. 4, 2015. Although there is a request to extend the period to November, this has not yet been approved.
As always, we will keep you abreast of changes as we become aware of them through our HR eBlast Alerts. Thank you for the opportunity to be service.
